Robert S. “Bob” Monk, 71 of La Crosse passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was born on November 21, 1951, in Yankton, S.D. to Dr. Robert and Nan (Brockway) Monk and graduated from Waukesha South High School in Waukesha, WI. He worked for a time as a physical education teacher in Cudahy, WI and as a professional photographer in Neenah, WI prior to earning his master’s degree in cardiac rehabilitation adult fitness from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
On June 25, 1977, he married Vicki Buscaglia in Hubertus, Wisconsin. Bob worked as a self-employed consultant writing grants as well as a professional registered parliamentarian. He also worked as the Director of Development for the Salvation Army.
Bob loved to volunteer and served as the President for the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Bob was a member of the Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award for his outstanding contribution to the community. He had a passion for music and in his early years played drums in a rock and roll band. Bob enjoyed nature and especially loved feeding the birds, as well as taking drives in his jeep while listening to his stereo loudly. He also had a passion for connecting with people and making those around him happy.
Bob is survived by his wife, Vicki of La Crosse; two sisters, Linda Farina of Waukesha, WI and Deborah (Bob) Kroll of Marinette, WI; two brothers, Steven Monk of Rochester, MN and Stuart Monk of West Bend, WI; along with his dog, Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Judith Reid; a sister-in-law, Ann Monk; a brother-in-law, Mark Buscaglia; mother and father-in-law, Jean and Edward Buscaglia, along with several canine companions and Buddy the squirrel.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
