Alan M. Daus, 53, of Onalaska, died on Monday, January 1 st , 2018. He was born on February 2, 1964 in Evanston, IL to William and Sue (Mielczarek) Daus.

Major Alan Daus, U.S. Army (Retired) graduated from Berlin High School in 1982 and then attended Ripon College where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics, Computer Science and Math. He began his military career by serving as First Lieutenant from April 1987 through April 1990 while assigned to the 75th United States Army Field Artillery Detachment, 294th United States Army Artillery Group, as Maintenance and Assembly Platoon Leader. In 1990 and 1991 he served as a Supply Officer during the Gulf War.

After receiving his Master of Science in Radiological Physics from the University of Oklahoma in 1995, he taught Physics at West Point from 1995-1997. He then served as a Radiation Safety Officer at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and retired from the United States Army in 2003. In August 2003, Alan was hired as a Medical Physicist in the Radiology Department at Gundersen Health System. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Physics (DABR) and was both an active member and volunteer with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

Alan was an avid runner in his twenties, earning a record for running at Ripon College and then switching to biking in his thirties and forties. From an early age he enjoyed hunting and fishing which developed a passion for wildlife conservation. He volunteered as Secretary of the Brice Prairie Conservation Association. Having been an Eagle Scout himself, Alan was involved in helping out the local Boy Scouts of America Troops.

Alan married Cathy Grogan in September of 1987 and together they had two sons, Patrick and Matthew.

Music from the eighties and jazz were among the genre’s Alan enjoyed listening to. He enjoyed the Arts and joined friends yearly at Viterbo’s Bright Star Season. He will be remembered for his eagerness to learn, teach, his meticulous handyman skills, his kind and generous disposition, and his love and support to family and friends. Alan, we thank you for your kind presence in our lives. You are deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife Cathy, two sons, Matthew Daus of Milwaukee and Patrick (Angela) Daus of DeForest, WI, his father, William (Karlyn) Daus of Kaukauna, WI, his mother

Sue (Dave) Marvin of Berlin, WI, a brother Mike (Kim) Daus of Neenah, WI, a step-grandmother Jeanette Daus, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alfred and Josephine Daus, and Steve and Maxine Mielczarek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to the Brice Prairie Conservation Association or to the family
