Wayne Stewart Wedwick

March 29, 1938 — May 19, 2024

Wayne Stewart Wedwick, age 86, passed away on May 19, 2024, at Mulder Health Care Center in West Salem, WI.

Wayne was born March 29, 1938, the youngest of 14 children born to Lars and Ella (Evenson) Wedwick in the Viroqua, WI area.

He graduated from Westby High School in 1956, then attended Wisconsin State College at La Crosse attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. Wayne was very proud to have graduated from college. He then enlisted in the US Army Reserves and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. After the military he worked for Honeywell in Minneapolis and while there was involved in the Apollo Project for NASA. He spent the rest of his career with Sears Roebuck, first in Minneapolis, MN, then transferring to the Sears Tower in Chicago until he retired and returned to the La Crosse area.

Wayne loved animals, dogs and cats in particular, and enjoyed spending his free time at rummage sales, flea markets, swap meets, etc., anywhere he might find treasures. He then sold his wares at flea markets both in Viroqua and the La Crosse area. He was always happy to chat with anyone at any time, especially those who visited him in the care center about growing up on the farm with his siblings, especially his beloved mother and older brother, Sam. A highlight for Wayne was taking a trip to the homeland of Norway in 1998 with his sisters Christal and Myrna, and sister-in-law Dorothy.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings, Clinton, Adeliane, Selmer (Sam), Clyde, Wesley, Frederick (Bing), Hilda, Myrna, twins Laurence and Lloyd, and Gordon. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, a good friend from Chicago, Deb Keen, and his flea market family.

Visitation will be held at the Viroqua VFW on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm with a prayer service following. Burial will take place at the Viroqua Cemetery.

Wayne’s family would like to thank Mulder’s Health Care, St. Croix Hospice, Pastor Michele Engh, and Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home for the compassionate care they provided.
