Wayne G.F. Lundell

July 25, 1930 — February 8, 2020

Wayne G. F. Lundell, 89 of Onalaska, WI passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, February 8, 2020. He was born July 25, 1930 in Iron Mountain, MI to Glenn and Mildred (Chenoweth) Lundell. The family moved to Milwaukee, WI where Wayne graduated from High School. In June of 1948 he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Korean War. He participated in several battles including the assault of Inchon, the capture of Seoul and the Wonsan-Hungman-Chosin Reservoir Campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1951 and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Following his discharge, Wayne returned to Milwaukee and on August 30, 1952 he married Geri Schmidt at St. Peter’s Church in Granville, WI. He began his four-year apprenticeship as a stone mason/brick layer and worked for various construction companies as a journeyman stone mason for over forty years, retiring in 1993. He and Geri resided in many places, including St. Francis, South Milwaukee, and Cashton, WI. In 2018 they moved to Onalaska. They also enjoyed spending their winters in Texas for many years.

Wayne was a member of Bricklayer’s Local #8 and V.F.W. Post 2895 in Cudahy, WI. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, was a sports enthusiast, and participated in the Freedom Honor Flight in 2016.

In addition to his wife Geri, he is survived by three children; Rod Lundell (Brenda Derosier) of South Milwaukee, WI, Lisa (Larry) Pagel of Weyauwega, WI and Rita (Pat) Schwartz of West Salem, WI; nine grandchildren; Andrea, Dan, Kristin, Evan, Jake, Ellie, Emma, Jack and Jason; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Diane (Dale) Pautzke of Cudahy, WI; a son-in-law, David Lambrecht of Green Bay, WI and a sister-in-law, Janice Lundell. He was preceded in death by his daughter, JoAnn Lambrecht, and his brother, Ronald Lundell.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
