Walter J. “Wally” Huebner 85, of La Crescent, Minn., died on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Serenity House in Tomah, Wis. He was born February 14,1932 in La Crosse Wis. to Walter & Adeline (Wadell) Huebner. He grew up in La Crosse and graduated from Central High School in 1950. He served with the 1 st Marine Air Wing in Korea. After returning home, he married and had two daughters Cindy and Sharon. Working for the Trane Company over 42 years, he was member of the Trane 25 Year Club. Walter was a Charter Member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent and was a life member of the American Legion Post 595 and VFW in La Crescent. Later he married Frances Elmer in La Crescent. They did everything together – hunting, fishing, and going dancing, playing cards and having family and friends over to entertain. They also liked to take drives in the country sightseeing and watching for wild game. Wally liked to grow his flowers and tomatoes, giving a lot of them away to family & friends. He was a great New York Yankee baseball fan. Later they both liked to watch the Twins and Midwest Country. Wally enjoyed his retirement very much.
He is survived by his two step-daughters Dianna (Robert) Cronin & Helen (Leon) Thicke of La Crescent, Three grandsons, William (Michelle)Oldenburg, Tom (Noreen) Oldenburg, & Scott (Erin) Oldenburg; one granddaughter, Tina (Andy) Speltz and 5 great grand-children, Justin and Alexis Oldenburg Jonathan, Eli, and Addison Speltz. In addition to his wife Frances, he was preceded in death by his step-grandson and wife, Daniel and Wendy Thicke of La Crescent and a step-granddaughter Kathy Oldenburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, La Crescent. Pastor Michael Woods will officiate. Entombment with military honors provided by Gittens- Leidel American Legion Post 595 will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family at the church Monday Morning from 10am until the time of services.
