Violet Young

Violet M. Young, 92, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the Hillview Health Care Center.

She was born in La Crosse on October 2, 1924, to Charles and Ida (Miller) Gollnick. She married Robert Young on September 11, 1954, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in La Crosse.

Early in her life, Violet worked for a short time at a dental office in La Crosse. She then worked at the La Crosse Rubber Mills for many years until her retirement. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to bake, especially cookies at Christmas time. She enjoyed reading and crocheting in her free time and also enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing. She was an avid Brewer and Packer fan who seldom missed listening to one of their games on the radio.

Violet was a long-time, active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in La Crosse where she served as a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by a son, Walter (Michele) Young of Chaseburg; a step-daughter, Pat Edgar of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren and great children, Virginia and Steven Young, Col. Erin (Kim) Edgar and their children, Megan and Riley, Chris (Stacy) Edgar and their children, Molly and Emily, and Roberta (Juan) Martinez and their son, Alex; special niece, Mary (Roger) Simota of Trempealeau and their children, Katie and William Simota; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; a brother, LeRoy Gollnick; and in-laws, Harold and Ruth Young.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 2 ^nd , at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 630 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Pastor John Parkyn will officiate. Burial will take place in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
