Valgean Ardell Anderson, 92 of West Salem, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born August 21, 1930 in La Crosse to Clarence and Lillie (Quall) Anderson and graduated from Holmen High School. On March 19, 1955, she married Perry M. Anderson, Jr. and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1979.
Valgean had worked for many years as a C.N.A. at Lakeview Healthcare Center in West Salem. Following her retirement she found a passion for quilting with the Quilting Ministry at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed playing cards and bowling, a hobby she pursued until 80 years of age. Valgean loved spending time with her family and watching the Packers and Brewers.
Valgean is survived by her four children; Karen Martin, Jill Anderson, Stuart (Dawn) Anderson and Paulette (Paul) Schomberg all of West Salem; 12 grandchildren, Dale (Kathy) Anderson, Jr., Julie (Ryan) Tenner, Kimberly (Pete) Arentz, Amber (Shane) Dwyer, Rebecca (Erin) McArthur, Susannah (Thomas) Gnewikow, Jamie Stoltz, Layne Anderson, Hannah Anderson, Dwight (Kelcey) Schomberg, Drew Schomberg and Delaney Schomberg; 17 great-grandchildren, Cody Anderson, Anya Tenner, Trevor and Isaac Arentz, Felix and Lilah Dwyer, Brenden, Callen and Cara McArthur, Bailey Tayte and Owen Gnewikow, Ian, Kanen, Khloe and Jaylen Stoltz and Millie Schomberg two sisters, Carolyn (Richard) Bryant of Holmen and Mary Anderson of Onalaska, along with nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Perry, she was preceded in death by three sons, Dale Anderson, Sr., Duane Anderson and Timothy Anderson; her parents; step-mother Eileen; a son-in-law, Luther “Chip” Martin; three brothers, Duane, Calvin and Vernon “Paul” Anderson; two sisters, Elvira Kidd Meyer and Lenora Baker; her father ad mother-in-law, Perry and Minnie Anderson, Sr.; three brothers-in-law, Orlando Baker, Arthur Kidd and Duane Meyer, along with a sister-in-law, Angie Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 29 th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 359 N. Leonard Street, West Salem with Pastors Jon and Jean Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Neshonoc Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Quilting Ministry at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
