Valeria I. “Val” Sandvick, 84, of La Crosse WI, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Brookdale Villas. She was born on June 14, 1939, in Viroqua, WI to Gustave and Gladys (Oliver) Helke. Val grew up in Victory/ Retreat area and graduated from DeSoto High School, the class of 1957. Val married Ray Sandvick on June 15, 1957, and together they raised four children. Val was employed by La Crosse County at Oak Forest and Hillview Healthcare Center before retiring in 1988. In her free time, she enjoyed being at home with Ray tending to their flowers.
Val is survived by her devoted husband Ray, children Julie Larson, Carol Lindley, Bob (Joanne) Sandvick, Joan (Terry) Porath, six grandchildren Heather (Bill) Salhanick, Nathan (Kacie) Larson, Christopher Johnson, Jennifer (Darrell) Hoffmann, Dawn Lindley, Stephanie (Andy) Hinkfuss. She is further survived by 12 great grandchildren, a sister Alice (Marv) Springborn, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was proceeded in death by her mother Gladys Helke, sister, Bernadine Barker, father and mother in-law, Harold and Florence Sandvick, and a son in-law, Larry Larson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1500 Sand Lake Road, Holmen WI. Pastor Gregory Pope will officiate. Burial will follow in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service.
