Trudy Ann Christenson, of La Crosse, WI., went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the age of 85, surrounded by her children and her sister.
Trudy was born on July 12 th , 1937, in Appleton, WI., to Joseph and Mabel (Gutweiler) Woods. She grew up in La Crosse, WI., where she attended Central High School. She married Robert D. Christenson on December 4 th , 1958, and together they had two children, David and Lisa.
Trudy worked as an operating room assistant for several years at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital before moving to Racine, WI. After moving to Racine, she worked in surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital. She then took a job in private practice with Dr. Laurence Smith, a general surgeon. Upon his retirement, Trudy became supervisor of sterile processing and then went on to become director of materials distribution and sterile processing at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Racine.
She retired in 2000, and she and her husband then moved to Grandview, WI. They built a beautiful house in the woods and enjoyed the outdoors together for years before eventually moving back to La Crosse. Trudy enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and canning was a fall favorite of hers.
Trudy was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Her faith in the Lord was very important to her, and she lived her life as an example of Christ by caring deeply for others and selflessly extending a helping hand wherever she could.
Trudy is survived by her two children, David (Heidi Aus dem Bruch) Christenson of Racine, WI., and Lisa (Todd) Scheel of St. Germain, WI. She is also survived by one grandchild, Hannah Scheel, of Minocqua, WI. Trudy was so proud of Hannah and her goal was to live long enough to see her graduate from Georgetown University with her Master’s degree to be an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Trudy received her wish as Hannah graduated Magna cum laude three days after Trudy’s passing. Trudy is also survived by two sisters, Doris Mathews and Roxanne Lonkoski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2020, as well as her brother James Woods, sister Donna Elkins, as well as her parents.
