Thomas "Tom" C. Bina

Thomas C. Bina “Tom”, a beloved husband, father, and educator, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on May 7, 1939, in La Crosse, WI, to Frank and Charlotte Bina.

Tom's passion for music and teaching led him to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. During this time, he met Wanda L. Larson, who would later become his wife. They married in 1961, shortly before Tom began his career as the band director at Viroqua High School. His commitment to education and support for educators steered him towards a fulfilling career working at the Wisconsin Education Association Council in Madison, WI, in 1970, and later as the Executive Director of the Coulee Region United Educators, where he made significant contributions as a union representative for public education employees until his retirement.

After retiring, Tom focused his energies on family activities and managing Bina Tree Farms, a business his father Frank had started. He enjoyed the outdoors and the holiday season, particularly the start of the Christmas tree-selling season on Thanksgiving weekend. He took great satisfaction in seeing the familiar faces of families who returned each year to pick their trees. Tom was also an avid sports enthusiast, following the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the University of Wisconsin Badger sports teams.

Tom is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Bina, and their three sons: John Bina (Dawn) of Lakeville, MN; Joe Bina (Dolly) of Maple Grove, MN; and James Bina (Renee) of Pittsburgh, PA, along with his cherished grandchildren, Katie, Peter, Thomas, Rachel, Alec, and Elena who brought him immense joy and pride.
