Thomas (Tom) Powell, 80, passed away on Friday November 15th, 2024 in his life-long home outside of Hokah, Minnesota with family and his favorite dog, Lily, by his side. Tom was born to Harry and Helen (Boehm) Powell on January 9th, 1944.
Tom graduated high school from St. Peter’s Catholic School in Hokah, MN. He worked at the lumber yard, cheese factory, and then spent most of his working career at and retired from Gundersen Health Care.
Tom saved up for his first tractor and kept the family farm alive from a young age as he kept a variety of animals and crops through his years. Tom was known for his throwing hand at horseshoes. Tom cherished the time he spent in his shop fixing, constructing, and fabricating all kinds of his inventions. Tom also took great pride in canning the produce he grew, processing his own meat, cutting wood with his son, Bill, and spending time with his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his son Bill (Julie) Powell of Hokah, MN; his daughter Mary (Don) Hennessey of Houston, MN; his sister MaryAnn Becker; his brother Daniel (Karen) Powell; his grandchildren: Jamie Wolf of Roseville, MN; Mandi Wolf Roseville, MN, Megan (Bradley) Boyd of La Crescent, MN; Katelyn Davy of La Crosse, WI; Becky (Kevin) Cagle of La Crescent, MN; Sean (Erica) Weaver of La Crosse, WI; his great-grandchildren Tyler and Madison Ballweber of Roseville, MN; his nieces Julie Powell Johnson, Nikki (Jeff) Malone, Diane (Gregg) Bulman, Jackie (Andy Ahl) Powell; his nephew, Jim Powell, and many more nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard (sister-in-law Lydia) Powell, Claude (sister-in-law Phyllis) Powell, and James Powell; his brother-in-law Dwayne Becker; his daughters; Amy (Powell) Kaufenberg, Sarah (Powell) Mathews; and his granddaughter, Emily Powell.
Tom’s family would like to thank the Gundersen hospice care team for the excellent care they provided.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 30th, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Hokah Fire Station, 9 Mill Street, Hokah, MN.
