Thomas A. Hogan died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones Wednesday October 4, 2017 at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN following a stroke and consequent cardiac arrest.
Thomas was born in Madison, WI on July 26, 1943 to parents Alder and Ruth (Steinborn) Hogan. He attended University of Wisconsin in both La Crosse and Madison, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. He was married to Carolyn (Roy) on July 1st, 1967 in Ashland, WI. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2017.
He worked for many years at WKBT Channel 8 where he directed the news and other local programming and designed and built sets for those shows. He also directed major local events for television such as the Oktoberfest parade. He completed his television career as an integral part of WLAX Channel 25. He was also a videographer for theatrical and dance events through his independent production company.
A lifelong musician and music lover, Tom played drums in many groups over the years, including the Kickapoo Jazz Band and Manhattan Skyline. He also performed and was involved in several theatrical productions for The Appleseed Players, for which he was an avid supporter and former board member. In addition, he was an active member and officer of the Houston County DFL.
With his rich speaking voice and warm smile, Tom Hogan enjoyed social events and was always ready to strike up a friendly conversation. He could often be seen escorting his wife Carolyn to arts and culture events at Viterbo University and around La Crosse.
He is survived by his loving children Kirsten (Doug Thoms), Devin (Connie) and Brendan as well as grandchildren Sean and Kylie. His two sons were with him at the hospital to ease his final passing with their devoted presence. His daughter and daughter-in-law were virtually present via telephone.
Visitation for Thomas will be Sunday October 8th at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 111 S. Oak Street, La Crescent MN from 5:30 to 7:30 pm with prayer service and sharing of stories to begin at 7:30.
Mass of Christian Burial to be held Monday October 9th at Crucifixion Church, 423 S. 2nd Street, La Crescent, MN at 11am with visitation one hour prior from 10am to 11am. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate.
Burial following Mass at Crucifixion Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at Crucifixion Parish hall.
