La Crescent

Suzanne Catherine (Hammel) Flatten, 78, of La Crescent, Mn passed away on January 24, 2025. She was the first born of Ralph and Stella (Collins) Hammel on January 6, 1947. She grew up on a large family farm outside of Dorchester, Iowa, helping with her younger siblings and attending a rural one room schoolhouse until her high school years.

Suzanne was a lifelong nurse as her career profession, but her pride and joy were her four sons, Alan, Michael, Scott and Paul. Everything she did in her adult life was to champion her sons, and they likewise would do anything for her. She loved them through everything as children and as adults, never passing judgment and always being their biggest supporter.

She married the love of her life, Verland Flatten, on September 8, 2007, at the Church of the Crucifixion. Together they enjoyed winters in Florida and trips on the Harley Davidson until he passed away December 3, 2020. Verland brought so much love and joy to her life, and she missed him every day since he passed.

Suzanne is survived by her sons, Alan (Amber), Michael, Scott (Kelly), and Paul (Lori) Iverson, and their children, Nicholas, Kristin, Alex, Cole, Tyler, Tanner, Savannah, Samantha, Amanda, Autumn, Kyler, and Kaitlyn, and one great granddaughter, Aspen. In addition, she is survived by her stepchildren, Scott (Caroline), Kirk (Colleen) Flatten, and Kelly Sherfield, and their children, Jacob, Emily, Benjamin, Nathan, Annmarie, Alexandra, Mackenzie, and Zachary. She is also survived by her siblings, Ralph (Kathy), Roger, Charlie (Deb), and David (Karla) Hammel, and Mary Jo (Bill) Frana, and her beloved best friend and sister Ruth Ann (Kevin) Kearney. In addition to her husband Verland, she is predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Stella, her brother Steven Hammel and infant sister Mary Catherine Hammel.
