Susan K. "Sue" Larson

April 10, 1949 — January 22, 2025

La Crosse, WI

Susan Kay (nee Kuester) Larson, aged 75, of La Crosse passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Gundersen Health System. Sue was born to her parents, Roland “Cactus” and Betty Ann (nee Galstad) Kuester on April 10, 1949, in La Crosse. Sue grew up in Chaseburg, WI and attended high school at both Luther High School in Onalaska and Westby High School, where she graduated in 1967. Sue went on to study nursing in Rochester, MN where she obtained her Registered Nursing License and embarked on her 42 year nursing career at Lutheran Hospital, now Gundersen Health System. Sue married her husband, Glen Larson in 1973 and they shared 51 years of marriage that blessed them with two sons, Christopher and Michael.

Throughout the years, Sue volunteered for many organizations including the Chaseburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202, Shelby Youth Baseball, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse, and the Gateway Area Council - Boy Scouts of America, from which she was honored with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest the council presents to volunteers.

Sue is survived by her husband: Glen Larson of La Crosse, her two sons: Christopher (Katherine) Larson of Medina, MN and Michael (Jamie) Larson of Onalaska, her two grandchildren: Kaitlin and Matthew Larson of Medina, MN, her sister: Carol (David) Nestingen of Whitefish Bay, WI, and her niece and nephew: Sarah Ann (Michael) Sifuentes of Whitefish Bay, WI and Peter (Brienne) Nestingen of Grafton, WI, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents: Roland “Cactus” and Betty Ann (nee Galstad) Kuester and her parents-in-law: Gilman and Ruth (Overgard) Larson.

The family has chosen to have a private memorial service but ask that you take the time to remember Sue in the small, simple moments of your day.

Sue enjoyed time spent in her yard - literally smelling the daisies and roses. She looked forward to car rides with Glen to Goose Island looking for wildlife - which, more times than not, she spotted before Glen. Sue treasured her time with family, whether it be on a sunny vacation, a weekend in Door County, or simply sitting around a kitchen table with her grandchildren while puppies laid at her feet. Sue spent her career in service to others, always providing care with kindness. Honor Sue by taking the qualities of simplicity, love, and kindness and demonstrating them throughout your day, hopefully, making it more beautiful.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to any one of the following organizations in memory of Sue:

Gundersen Medical Foundation

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, La Crosse, WI

Gateway Area Council, Boy Scouts of America
