Steven Kenneth Stach

January 22, 1947 — September 30, 2022

Steven Kenneth Stach, 75, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 30, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 22, 1947, to Kenneth and Joan (Cavadini) Stach of La Crosse, WI.

Steve was a 1965 graduate of Central High School in La Crosse, WI. He was a singer and guitarist for “The Renegades.”

In 1965, Steve along with four of his friends joined the Air Force as part of the “buddy plan.” He was stationed in South Dakota where he specialized in the recreation department. He then went on to earn a bachelor's of Science Degree in Mass Communication (Journalism) from the University of La Crosse Wisconsin and earned a Marketing Degree from Western Wisconsin Technical College.

On August 18, 1973, he married Janet (Engles) Stach and was blessed with his daughter Sarah. Steve and Jan later divorced. He then met Jackie and spent the rest of his life sharing her love.

Steve worked as a general manager for May Broadcasting Company, and he was interim president for Greater La Crosse Chamber of Commerce. He went on to be director of Public Relations for the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and then went on to become their Marketing Specialist. Steve kept himself busy with the S.P.E.A.R Program, United Way, United Fund for the Arts and Humanities, Board of Directors/ Red Cross, Board of Directors - Community Credit Union, Rotary International, he was President of the La Crosse Symphony Board of Directors, a member of the Onalaska Anglers and for many years acted and sang for “Pills a Poppin.” He was acknowledged by ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) for his meritorious leadership and support. He also enjoyed residential painting.

Steve was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was often found giving Holy Communion to the those in need.

Many people who knew Steve knew he was a connoisseur of food, especially sweets. He was never one to turn down a treat or a second helping. He also had one hell of a sense of humor and was quick witted. He truly was one of the good guys. Up until the end Steve fought bravely and remained positive through his health struggles.

Survivors include: his life partner Jackie Tulius, his daughter Sarah (Ted) Johnson and his grandson Kaine Johnson. His Siblings: Randy Stach, Carol (Bob) Kasparek, Michael (Rhonda) Stach and Richard Stach. His nieces and nephews: Jenni Ward, Kendra (Brett) Hanson, Jacob (Danette) Stach, Kaylan (Josh) Thompson, Ben (Athena) Ring, Blade, Preston and Nicholas Stach. As well as many great nieces and nephews. He is further survived by our furry kids, Beener and Piper. Your lap is already missed. They loved you too.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Karen Schulte, an infant brother and his nephew John Kasparek.

Just a prayer from the family who loved you, just a memory fond and true, in our hearts you will live forever, because we thought the world of you. Steve's family would like to thank Dr. Ojelabi, Lisa Gundersen PA, Dr. Driscoll, Dr. Sabin, Dr. Burnett and all involved in Steve's care over the last 4 years. He appreciated you all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 13 th at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Onalaska with Msgr. Steven Kachel officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
