Steven J. Mashak

The gates of Heaven opened for Steven J. Mashak, 68 of St. Joseph Ridge on Monday, September 24, 2018. Steve was born in La Crosse on May 26, 1950 to John J. and Bernice M. (Kaiser) Mashak. On December 3, 1988 Steve married Kathleen Howe at The Church of The Crucifixion in La Crescent, Minn. In addition to his loving wife, Kathy, he is survived by his siblings; Susan Knight, Sharon (Darrel) Evenson, Sandra (David) Stakston, Sonia (Joseph) Brye, Sara (David) Miller, Sheila (Kenneth) Kuhlman, Shirlee (John) Miller and Spencer (Sally) Mashak. Nieces and nephews Timothy, Darrel, Angela, Austin, Travis, Greg, Bethany, Bailey, Anthony, Andrew, Lucas, Natalie, Carson, Clayton, Bret, Jacob, Marissa, Everett and John. He is further survived by his sister and brother in law Mary and Jeff Henthorne and the “grandchildren of his heart” Caleb, Kiley, Christian and Kyle. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, his father and brothers Samuel and Simeon.

Steve had worked at Trane Company for forty years; however, his labor and love for the church and caring for others was paramount in his life. Steve was a member of the Bohemian Valley Sports Club and the St. Joe’s Lions Club. His passions in life were hunting, fishing, his Beagles and the New York Yankees.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, September 28, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Ridge Catholic Church. Monsignor Robert Hundt and Rev. Timothy Welles will concelebrate. Private family burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 1 until 5 pm and will begin with a rosary at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated in Steve’s memory.  Sorrow is not forever- love is.
