Steven John Hintz, 69, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, November 29th, 2021. Known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, Steven was born April 17th, 1952, in Milwaukee and moved with his family to La Crosse in 1960 after the passing of his father. Steven graduated from Central High School in 1970. In 1972, he graduated from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute with an Associate’s degree in Electronics. He was a self-studied Professional Engineer and had a lifelong love of technology and electronics. Steven’s career began with laying some of the first coaxial cables, in Onalaska with Westgate Cable, and eventually led to many positions with Century Telephone. Steven retired from Century after 28 years.
Greater than his love of technology was his passion for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the one love of his life and wife of 49 years, Diane, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. In 1998, Steven became a born-again believer by trusting in Christ alone for the forgiveness of his sins and dedicating his life to following Jesus and His teachings. He loved studying his Bible, giving his time to his church community, praying for friends and family and sharing his joy of the Gospel. He also loved the outdoors, camping, traveling, and being with his family.
Steven was a devoted father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren. He took great delight in their interests, serving as scoutmaster in the boy scouts attending concerts, plays or sporting events. He loved celebrating their accomplishments and giving his support and even helping his grandkids with their math homework. To his children and grandchildren, he was truly adored and loved.
Steven was preceded in death by his father Frederick W. Hintz, mother Virginia R. Hintz (Moe), brother David A. Hintz, grandson Jairus I. Hintz, in-laws Hazen and Mildred Hougom, sisters-in-law Janet Wolter and Greta Hougom, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Surviving family members include his loving wife Diane G. Hintz (Hougom), Janet L. Reid (Hintz) sister and her daughter Emily M. Reid in Tucson, AZ, brothers-in-law Richard Hougom, Irvin Hougom and Roger Wolter. Blessed with four children Scott and Melissa Hintz, Mark and Margaret Hintz, Kevin Hintz, Amy and Trent Hutzenbuhler and daughter-in-law Christie. Steven was the proud Papa of 17 grandchildren, Josephine and Mat Affeld, Jacob, Aleasha, Gabrielle, Toby, Lucas, Brooke, Michael, Emma, Hazen, Ethan, Brianna, Lillian, Benjamin, Joy, Samuel, Matthias and great-grandchild Sawyer.
