Stephen "Steve" Sprehn

November 22, 1947, twin boys born to Bill and Dorothy! November 28, 2017, Steve, just 70, died peacefully in his home with his wife of 49 years close by.
Steve married his high school sweet heart, Sue Lovold, on August 31, 1968. They together journeyed through thin and thick, poorer and richer, health and sickness. Steve loved his family and was so proud of daughter, Amanda Byom (Darin Throndson) and son, Brad (Anne) and their children, who are Grand indeed: Emmarie, Ainsley, Ilee, and Hudson Byom and Brinlee, Broedy, and Baylee Sprehn. Other important family include brother, Stanley, and siblings-in-law, Karen (Mike) Schultz, Jeff (Kathy) Lovold, Dennis Lovold, Tom (Jan) Benzinger, and his furry, loyal Yeti.
Steve graduated from Bangor High School and later UW-Madison with engineering and business degrees (Go Badgers!) He served in the 101 ^st Airborne and was a Vietnam Veteran. Once moved to La Crosse, he was a partner/carpenter with La Crosse Construction, and later became a partner/master plumber with Coulee Region Mechanical.
He will be remembered for being a baker extraordinaire (although he liked making messes far more than cleaning them up), and a top notch cook (ask anyone lucky enough to taste his Thanksgiving dressing…which he still made this year). He was a master wood worker creating heirlooms like the oak cradle used by all the grand babies, toy chests, tables, and cabinets. During his good health days, he enjoyed golf, taxidermy, hunting and fishing, trap shooting, and bowling. He loved Christmas, especially shopping for the perfect tree. Like his father, Steve was a man of strong opinions, had a heart of gold, and was a lover of gadgets with all the bells and whistles (never the cheap stuff!)
Waiting to greet him were his parents, Bill and Dorothy (Garves) Sprehn, his beloved sister, Shirley Benzinger, his niece, Tracy (Benzinger) Brinkman, and his parents-in-law, Stan and Florence Lovold. He will be deeply missed by the family and friends he left behind.
Steve’s life will be celebrated Saturday December 16, 2017, at First Congregational Church, Losey and Main. Come reminisce with his family at 10AM, with a service following at 11am.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be directed to the charity of you choice.
