Stanley John Paalksnis, 82, of Onalaska, WI, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024.
Stan was born on September 19, 1942, in Rokiskis, Lithuania to Walter & Sally Paalksnis. Stan was just a child when World War II altered the course of his life forever. The family was forced to leave their home and flee for safety. While heading east, they were placed in a Displaced Persons Camp in Germany, for the remainder of the war. After the war ended, The American Red Cross helped Stan’s parents locate a family member in Chicago and their immigration started. The family arrived in New York City on August 22, 1949, before eventually settling in Chicago, Il.
While growing up, Stan developed an unrivaled passion for hunting and fishing. Throughout his life, Stan would travel all over the country hunting a variety of big game, such as Polar and Kodiak bears, caribou, elk, mountain lion, and more. If you met Stan, there’s a good chance you’ve heard a story or two.
Throughout his life, he worked hard before realizing his “American Dream” by starting a successful career as an electrician. He would eventually own and operate his own business, Big Bear Electric. His hard work and dedication allowed him to retire early, so he and his wife Linda, their son Thomas, and his parents could move to their beautiful lake home on Brice Prairie, where they enjoyed many peaceful years together.
Stanley is survived by his son, Thomas (Grace) Paalksnis; grandson, Walter J. Paalksnis; sisters, Helen (Armando) Lopez and Nijola (Brian) Fredricks, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Paalksnis; and his parents, Walter and Sally Paalksnis.
Stan will be remembered for his great stories, love of the outdoors, and work ethic. May he rest in peace.
A celebration of life will be held at Blue Moon on Saturday, February 1, from 3 to 8 pm. Come and share your stories. There will be a private burial held at a later date at the Onalaska City Cemetery.
