Shirley Mae Atchison

Shirley (Fredrickson) Atchison, 78, of La Crosse WI, passed away peacefully Sunday August 20th, 2023 at Sturgeon Bay Health Services. She was born in La Crosse, on January 2, 1945 to Raymond and Alta (Brahmer) Fredrickson. She married the love of her life James “Jim” Atchison on July 30, 1966 at Bethel Lutheran Church in La Crosse WI. Shirley resided in La Crosse WI, till this past month when she moved to Sturgeon Bay WI, to be near her eldest daughter and grandson.

Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She was a social butterfly within her community and a long time member and volunteer at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in La Crosse WI. Shirley pursued a career as a nurse technician/assistant working at St Francis Hospital (Mayo Clinic) before transitioning to working at a nursing home. She had a love for helping others and was an avid caregiver every chance she had.

Her favorite hobbies included knitting, reading, baking/cooking, gardening, bingo and attending community events. The highlight of her life was spending quality time with her grandchildren and enjoying family gatherings.

Shirley is survived by her three children; son Mark Atchison, and daughters Mary Jane Lecher, Amy (Eric Pedersen) Atchison. Her two grandchildren; Aliyah Lauren and Louden Andre. Siblings; Russell (Connie), Barbara, and Helen. As well as many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Jim; son in law Eric Lecher; 11 siblings; along with other family relations and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 612 Division St., La Crosse, WI. 54601. Pastor Joanne Richmond will officiate. Private burial will take place at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10am until the time of services.
