Sherman M Stegen, 80, of Beaver Dam, WI, died unexpectedly on June 26, 2023 at his home. Sherman was born in La Crosse, WI, on Aug. 31, 1942, the son of Arnold and Ina (Holter) Stegen, Sherman was a 1960 graduate of Central High School in La Crosse, WI. He married the love of his life Joan Schwabenbauer on August 31, 1963. He worked as a machinist at NCR in West Salem and retired from Kraft Foods after 23 years. Sherman enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Packers and Brewers. He also enjoyed feeding and watching his birds and spending time with his family. Sherman was an innovator who would do whatever it took to make something work and always wanted to help other people out.
He is survived by his son Dale (Victoria) Stegen, his grandson Dylan Stegen, step grandson Travis Geschke, step great grandson Berkley, 2 brothers-in-law, Jerry Kendhammer, Charles (Ruth) Schwabenbauer, 2 sisters-in-law Mary Ann Gabrielson, Donna (Bob) Lapp, 2 stepsisters in law, Kathleen (Ken) Williams and Diane (Tim) Niebuhr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law, Paul and Charlotte (Will) Schwabenbauer, his son Randy in 1982, his wife Joan in 2020, his 2 brothers Laverne, and Dale, 3 sisters, Lavaine (Larry) Dugan, Valerie (Jerry ) Kendhammer, Doris (Duane) Triplett, His brother-in-law Joseph Schwabenbauer and his wife Arlene, and nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. S. La Crosse WI. 54601. Deacon Thomas Skemp will officiate. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday morning one hour prior to the services.
