Sandra J. Beranek, 76, of Holmen, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born on December 27, 1940 in La Crosse, WI to William and Bernice (Foss) Barney. She graduated from Logan High School in 1958. On May 20, 1961 she married Leonard Beranek in La Crosse. She was employed at Soell’s Drug Store until 1965 when she and Len moved to Holmen. She then worked at Northern Engraving before moving to the farm where she was involved in foster care. In 1983 she and Len opened Pizza Corral, which was her proudest accomplishment, before retiring in 2005. Together they enjoyed retirement by traveling, especially taking cruises. What she enjoyed most was the farm where she lived for 45 years with her children living next to her, watching them do their chores, riding horses, making hay, gardening and the grandchildren playing.
She is survived by her husband Leonard, children Bill (Laurie) Beranek, Scott (Jessi) Beranek, Julie (Tim) Lysaker all of Holmen, Al (Lisa) Lemke of Appleton, WI and Paula Lemke (Paul) Broker of Neenah, WI, grandchildren Brandon Beranek-Lysaker (Kali Lentz), Bill Beranek, Craig Beranek, Taylor Lysaker, Madison Lysaker, Rachel Beranek, Logan Beranek, Clayton Lemke, Eli Lemke, Jacob Lemke, Kimberlee Hale, Justin Hale and Ashlynn Hale, great grandchildren Savannah Beranek, Kaldon Beranek-Lysaker, Xavier Beranek-Lysaker and Xander Beranek-Lysaker, three sisters Elaine Howe of Milwaukee, WI, Patricia (Keith) Krause of Holmen and Judy Gilbertson of Holmen, one brother Keith (Gloria) Barney of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Lola Holley and Nancy Hollenbeck, two brothers William Barney, Jr. and Robert Barney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 515 Main St. N., Holmen. Rev. John L. Parr will officiate. Burial will follow in the Green Mound Cemetery in Holmen. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 4-8 PM, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM, and again on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. The Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, Onalaska Chapel is assisting the family.
