Royal was born on a spring day to Evelyn Flietner in the back seat of a Ford model A, while waiting for the ferry from French Island to La Crosse. This seems fitting for a man who was so passionate about cars.
His love for cars led him on along an adventurous life spanning eight decades. He worked for American motors Company for 17 years as a welder and a float, working on all makes and models.
An avid NASCAR fan, he never missed a race if he could help it. The only love that topped it was the love of his children, raising three of them as a single parent after losing his wife in 1978.
Royal went on to join his wife on a beautiful fall day. He leaves behind his four children; Charles V Kelly, Angela S Flietner (Greg Hendricks) Royal V Flietner and Peter J Flietner (Sarah Flietner) 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lorinda Rose Flietner, his Daughter n law Kristine Kelly, his brother Leroy Flietner, sisters Gloria Lattmann and Debra Yonker.
As a simple man, he did not want services, instead he requested you have a shot and a beer in remembrance of him, and to do something fun but “Stay out of trouble”
The family will be spreading his ashes at a later time.
Some very special people we wish to say thank you too are Brenda Will for her care and dedication over the years. Royal looked forward to each and every visit, and hearing stories about her grandchildren and their adventures.
The Hospice care of La Crosse, especially Trin, who taught us how to care for him at the end and was so gentle and trustworthy. Thank you.
