Roy D. Schroeder, 93, of La Crescent and formerly of rural Dakota, Minn., died on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at La Crescent Health Services, La Crescent.
He was born in La Crosse on May 23, 1925, to John and Ida (Mades) Schroeder. He married Arlene L. Wolter on April 23, 1948, in Nodine. Arlene preceded him in death on May 16, 2011.
Roy served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a life-long member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 of La Crescent. He farmed his entire life in Winona County and also worked for the Trane Company in La Crosse for 33 years before retiring from Trane in 1988. Roy had been a life-long, devoted member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Nodine.
He is survived by his children, Diane (Jim) Bateman of La Crescent, Shari Henry of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Terry Schroeder of La Crescent; four grandchildren, Mark (Christy) Bateman of Onalaska, Jodi (James) Gibbons of Onalaska, Casey (Brad) Kampa of Independence, Wis., and Keith Schroeder of Dakota, Minn.; seven great grandchildren, Greg, Emma, Ayren, Christian, Katelyn, Dominic and Madison; and many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his wife, Arlene, Roy was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Bill Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 23 rd , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 South Oak St., La Crescent. Pastor Dennis Harbach will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nodine. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
