Rosemary T. Zemlo was called home to her Savior on August 3, 2019. Having lost her battle with cancer, she is now at peace.
Rosemary was born on January 22, 1939 in Chicago, IL to George and Mary (Austin) Phelan. On April 26, 1969 she married Steve Zemlo. Together they raised two daughters.
Rosemary served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was active duty during the Gulf War. She retired from the Army as a LT Colonel.
She attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI and graduated with honors, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. After working many years in hospitals and nursing homes, caring for patients with love, she volunteered at Crucifixion & Mayo Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Steve Zemlo, and her parents. She is survived by two daughters Christine (Jim) Laughlin and Andrea (Shawn) Hanlon; two grandsons Paul & Ryan Hanlon; 3 sisters Anne Tieyten, Marian Cattanach, and Pat Lathrop; 2 brothers Joe Phelan and Gerry Phelan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Aug 10, 2019 at Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent. Fr John L. Evans II will officiate. Burial will be in the Crucifixion Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service. The Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, La Crescent Chapel is assisting the family.
