Rosemary E. Brevig

Rosemary E. Brevig, 89 of La Crescent, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday June 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born July 4, 1934, in Hillsboro, WI to John and Mary (Franklin) Byers and attended schools in Hillsboro. Rosemary’s mom passed away when she was just 5 months old, and her older sisters all helped her dad to raise her.

In 1952 she married Earl Brevig in La Crosse, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2018. Rosemary had worked for three years for Watkins Products in Winona before farming with her husband in the Ridgeway, MN area for 40 years. In 1999, the couple moved to La Crescent to enjoy their retirement.

Rosemary enjoyed gardening, flowers and camping with her family. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosemary volunteered for many years at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church making apple pies for Applefest. She was fortunate enough to travel to England to see her mother’s family and meet her Aunt Maggie.

Rosemary is survived by four children; Larry Brevig, Linda (Jim) Walter, Mike (Nancee) Brevig and Karla (Darryl) Oitzman; six grandchildren; Jason Brevig, Pam Brevig, Laura A. Brevig, Shawn (Laura K.) Brevig, Brad (Melissa) Brevig and Tyler Oitzman; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, Cohen (born June 19, 2024); three sisters-in-law, Doris Olson, Bonnie Brevig and Margie Brevig along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Earl, she was preceded in death by her parents; stepmom, Frances Byers; six brothers and sisters, Kleon (Beulah) Byers, Bazzel (Norma) Byers, LaVerna (Elgin) Fish, LaVern (Darlene) Byers, Nellie Fish and Loren (Alice) Byers, as well as her beloved dog, Betsy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21st from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 21 N. Hill Street in La Crescent with Rev. Mark Jolivette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
