Roland “Rollie” Frederick Washburn passed away on September 11, 2022, at his home in La Crosse, WI at the age of 88. Even though he was taken from this world, his spunk and sass left a beacon of light for all. He was born to Russell and Zella (DeWitt) Washburn on November 24, 1933. After graduating high school, Roland went into the army as a military policeman. He served 6 years and returned home to find work at Outer’s for a short time where he met his soulmate, Janet Smith. They were married on August 6, 1971 and shared 50 wonderful years together. Roland continued his working career as a custodian for the School District of La Crosse, where he later retired. Sitting still was not something you would see Roland doing often, unless it came to wrestling. Four nights a week and many La Crosse Center wrestling events, with his nephew David, caught his attention. Roller skating, golfing, and bowling tournaments would take up his extra free-time, if he and Janet weren’t traveling or spending time at family gatherings. Roland was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews, some of which he spent time with often. He also enjoyed spending time with his “girlfriend” Carrie of 12 years. As he leaves behind his beloved wife Janet, his cheerful attitude and contagious smile will be sadly missed along with his wild stories and jokes. His chauffeur, Marc will miss their conversations they shared as Roland would always talk about his many adventures he had in life. Roland was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Darrell. He is survived by his wife, Janet; two sisters-in-law, Janice Phillips and her friend John, and Rosemary (Lyndon) Vatland; two brothers-in-law, Kerry (Deb) Smith and Robert Smith; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Family, friends, and others whose lives Roland touched are invited to Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue S., La Crosse, WI 54601 from 5pm – 7pm on Thursday, September 15, 2022, and from 10am until the time of service at 11am on Friday, September 16, 2022.
