Roger M. Young

April 20, 1946 — August 23, 2020

Roger M. Young, 74 of La Crosse, WI, died from complications of a stroke on August 23, 2020 at Tomah Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 20, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Harrison H. Young and Ella (Ames) Young.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army April 1967 where he served one tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in November of 1968. After the war, he settled in La Crosse and married Patricia (Quirk) Buechner. They had four children together, Mari, Robert, Jeff and Roger.

While in La Crosse he worked with his dad in the family refuse business. Later, he moved to Manitowoc, WI, where he worked for Manitowoc Equipment Works as a forklift operator for many years. Following his divorce from Patricia, he owned and operated a bar in Two Rivers, WI. then moved back to La Crosse where he enjoyed driving bus and working for a septic pumping company.

He loved his hometown of La Crosse especially the North side and French Island where he grew up. His hobbies in life were the CB club, watching old Westerns and war movies while drinking Pepsi as well as hunting when he was younger. All who knew him thought he had a great sense of humor and tried to make others laugh.

Roger is survived by his daughter Mari (Mark) Moore, and their children Sara and Sophie Moore of Westby, WI, three sons Robert Young of West Salem, WI, Jeff (Christine) Young and their children Kylie, Alysha, Lauren, Ryan and Rachel; three great grandkids Adison, Leiland and Myra of Manitowoc and Onalaska, WI, Roger Young and his children Mikayla and Taylor Schaefer all of Sturgeon Bay, WI, his best friend and cousin Kenny Ames of La Crosse and many more friends and family as well. He will be missed by all who loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Ronald and Robert, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

The family would like to thank all who cared for him in any way in his last years at Gundersen Health, Tomah Health, Tomah Nursing and Rehab Center, Tomah Hospice as well as his Inclusa team. We are truly grateful for all the compassion and kindness shown to him.
