Roger F. LaRue of La Crescent, MN, born Sept. 4, 1931; passed away Feb. 2, 2021. Roger was born in Milwaukee, WI to Leon and Selma (Nelson) LaRue. Baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Milwaukee. He attended public schools, and graduated from South Division High School. While in high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1948. After graduating high school in January of 1950, he worked until called to active duty in October of 1950. After five months in training, he was sent to Korea in 1951, serving as a machine gunner and with intelligence; attaining the rank of Sgt. After serving our country, he returned to La Crosse, installing controls on HVAC equipment for Johnson Controls.
While making many friends, he met a cute coed at UWL named Pat Ramlet, soon to be a teacher and already an accomplished violinist. They dated for the summer and after a fairy-tale romance got married on August 20, 1955.
With his growing family, he made a home in La Crescent, MN in 1958. Roger served his community as charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, a Sunday School Teacher, Gopher State Sportsman Club member where he was a Firearm Safety instructor for 26 years, Lions Club, Applefest Parade Committee, and Boy Scout leader, along with several village committees were just a few of his contributions. Roger was a proud lifetime member of both the American Legion and VFW. He retired after 42 years with Johnson Controls.
Roger loved to hunt, fish, golf, bowl, and many other sports. He was an avid Green Bay Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; five children, Robert LaRue (Kathy), Brian (Terry) LaRue, Sharon LaRue, Bill (Tari) LaRue, and Nancy (Randy) Larson; one sister, Carol (Roger) Seymour; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Selma LaRue; in-laws, Milo and Thelma Ramlet; sister, Nathalie; daughter-in-law, Christy; and grandson, Jacob.
The family would like to thank the Gundersen staff of Oncology and Hospice for their wonderful care.
A private family service will be held. Burial, with military honors provided by Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595, will take place in Prince of Peace Cemetery, La Crescent. Memorials are preferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of La Crescent, or the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse.
