Rodney Cameron Mowbray

Rodney Cameron Mowbray, 78, of La Crosse, WI, went to his heavenly home on April 16, 2023. Rod was born on November 8, 1944, and grew up in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Central High School, the University of Minnesota Duluth, and finally Iowa State University with a master’s degree and doctorate in developmental biology. He taught at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse from 1972 until his retirement in 2006. He married Carol Rhode in 1966 in Silver Bay, MN and they celebrated their 56 ^th Anniversary last August. Rod served in the National Guard from 1971 until 1991 and retired as a major. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, photography, and his church.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Donald and Dorothy Mowbray. He is survived by his wife Carol; three children, Catherine Wheeler (John), Cameron Mowbray (Lisa), and Cari Aryn Adams (Joel); nine grandchildren, Annika, John, and Miriam Wheeler, Anna, Elle, and Brady Mowbray, and Soren, Gunnar, and Freja Adams. He is survived also by his brothers Donald Mowbray (Magda), Thomas Mowbray (Jean), and Timothy Mowbray (Susan), as well as by brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and their families.

A service will be held for him on Saturday April 29, 2023 at Christ is Lord Free Lutheran Church, with visitation beginning at 9:30 and a service at 11am (1269 Cty Hwy PH, Onalaska). Pastor Jonathan Unverzagt will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Christ is Lord Free Lutheran Church Building Fund or Coulee Christian School Building Fund. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
