Rock Glenn Flury, age 66, of Holmen, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25 at his home after a 5 week fight against cancer. He was born on January 27, 1958 to Norval and Lillian (Slawson) Flury. He graduated from La Crescent High School in 1976. He worked for Dairyland Power until he moved to Rochester, MN to help manage a Kwik Trip with his late brother, Randall Flury. It was here that he’d meet his wife, Cynthia “Cindy”. They were married on January 25, 1980. Together they opened and operated many businesses. First, they opened Land of Dreams water bed manufacturing and furniture stores in 7 locations across Minnesota and Iowa, employing a few hundred people until the recession. In 1987 they moved to Sparta, WI to work with family in construction. Rock opened Paint Doctors in Sparta, but changed the name to Painters Plus before moving to Holmen, WI in 1995.
Rock is remembered for his big personality and great conversation skills. Anyone who has chatted with him has a story to share. Relationships were of great importance to Rock, and most important, were his relationships with his family. His generosity was unmatched. Rock was quick to give to others and help anyone who was down on their luck.
Throughout his life, Rock enjoyed working with his hands. From building, painting, welding, to creating art; Rock’s creativity and incredible work ethic shined through. Rock was a hard worker and a dedicated craftsman. He took pride in the work he did at Painters Plus and the business he built. His biggest accomplishment would be to hand over the business to the 2nd and 3rd generation after retiring this summer. Over the decades, Rock employed family members, his sons’ friends, his grandchildren, grandchildrens’ friends and many other employees who became friends. He taught them the value of quality workmanship and being reliable. He also instilled the value of working hard to play hard. Rock supported his family endlessly with love and invaluable life lessons.
Rock is survived by his wife, Cindy, son Michael (Sarah) and grandchildren Brandon, Megan, Mason, Gianni, daughter Tara, son James (Brooke), Dante and other children; brother Rick, sisters Sharon (Larry) Schultz, Brenda (Rich) Greig, Becky (Brian) Szyszka and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Life will take place on Memorial Day May 27 from 1:00-4:00 at Seven Bridges Park Shelter on Norse Drive in Holmen. Friends and Family are welcome to attend.
