Robert E. Suter

Robert E. Suter, age 97, of Onalaska, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Onalaska Care Center. Born on March 10, 1928, in La Crosse, WI, to James and Cliffie (Wilber) Suter. Robert lived a life full of love, service, and dedication.

Robert spent his childhood on the family farm near Galesville, developing a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for nature. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, he pursued further education in electrical engineering, leading to a distinguished career at Trane Company in La Crosse, WI.

In 1957, Robert married Esther Gustafson, the love of his life. Together, along with their son Jim, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Robert was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, American Legion, 4000 Foundation and VFW, and served as an Alderman in La Crosse, reflecting his deep sense of duty and community service.

Robert had a passion for traveling with his family, especially to Kenora, Ontario, where he enjoyed walleye fishing and visiting with extended family. Known for his kindness and generosity, Robert made many lifelong friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Robert is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, James and Cliffie (Wilber) Suter; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wictor and Ingrid Gustafson; sisters-in-law, Margaret Yowell, Judy Gustafson, and Betty Gustafson; and brothers-in-law, Alfred Gustafson and Jimmie Yowell.

He is survived by his loving wife, Esther; his cherished son, Jim; sister-in-law, Norma Gustafson; brothers-in-law, Walter Gustafson and Oscar Gustafson; and many beloved nephews and nieces. Robert's legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Robert's memory. Robert E. Suter will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.
