Robert E. "Newby" Newburg

Robert E. “Newby” Newburg, 74, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse after a long battle with illness. He was born on July 13, 1948 in La Crosse to Earl and Selma “Sam” Newburg. He graduated from Westby High School in 1966 where he excelled as a heavyweight wrestler. He married Veronica Thompson in October of 1979 in Rochester, MN. Bob hauled milk for many years and also worked for Stafford Trucking. He was a longtime devoted Nascar fan, was an avid deer and coon hunter, and enjoyed playing euchre. He leaves behind many friends and relatives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Blythe (Trevor) McConaughey, a niece Trisha (Tom) Leis and a nephew Patrick Fiers. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bettina Fiers and her husband Gerald and Karen Hundt and her husband Roger, and a nephew Jeffery Hundt.

In accordance with Newby’s wishes there will be no services. Now he’s in a place where he can listen to the “Mule Skinner Blues” 24/7.
