September 10, 1950 — September 3, 2024

Rita Ann Ehlenfeldt, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, in Houston, Minnesota at the age of 73. Born on September 10, 1950, in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Richard and Eloise (Shepardson) Severson, Rita was a vibrant soul whose warmth and kindness were brought to people throughout her life.

Rita later married her loving husband Larry Ehlenfeldt on June 14, 1980, in Hokah, Minnesota. Rita dedicated many years of her professional life to working at Sprint as a telephone operator. Her cheerful demeanor and ability to connect with callers made her an asset in her workplace and a cherished colleague among her peers. Friends and coworkers alike remember her for her infectious laughter and openness, which made any day brighter.

A woman with a big heart, Rita was always welcoming and pleasant, with a knack for making others feel at home. Her sense of humor and generosity knew no bounds. She often baked and cooked for those around her, finding joy in the simple act of nourishing loved ones. There are countless stories of her giving the shirt off her back to anyone in need, serving as a true testament to her compassionate nature.

Rita is survived by her loving daughter Heather (Corey) Benson, and her two grandsons, Chase and Cole Benson, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She also leaves behind her beloved brothers, Rick Severson, Scott (Julie) Severson, Jerome Severson, Shawn (Annette) Shepardson, and Darin (Linda) Shepardson; as well as her sisters, Tarri Kanthack, and Carrie Moore, along with an aunt, and many nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins who will carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 30 years, Larry Ehlenfeldt, and her parents, Richard and Eloise Severson, along with her stepfather Ronald Shepardson. Also welcoming her into eternal rest are her late brother Tom Severson, sister-in-law Sue Severson, and brother-in-law David Moore.
