Richard Scott (Scotty) Steinmetz of La Crosse, WI passed away Sunday December 29, 2019 at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse, where he has resided since October 2019.
Scotty was born in Tomah WI on July 2, 1934 to Anthony Paul and Phoebe Salina (Scott) Steinmetz. because of his father's position as foreman for the Milwaukee Road Railroad, he moved several times in his youth. First to Sparta, then Westby, where he graduated in 1952 and also to Coon Valley WI, where he met his future wife Donna Mae Dale. Scotty and Donna were married at St. Mary’s church in Coon Valley on May 14, 1960, and she preceded him in death in October 2013.
Scotty worked first as a service station attendant, and then as a route driver for most of his adult life, and retired from The Company Store. Scotty much enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed many years of camping with his family and with close friends the Schneiders. Scotty also enjoyed playing euchre, bingo and 31. He was frequently found manning the charcoal grill at home and for family gatherings, cooking delicious chicken and steaks, and occasionally even lobster.
Scotty is survived by his son Craig I. Steinmetz of La Crescent, MN and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Phoebe (Scott) Steinmetz, his only sibling, sister Katheryn (Kay) Parkison, and his wife Donna Mae (Dale) Steinmetz, and beloved cats Midnite and Dynamite.
There will be a visitation from 5-7 pm on Thursday January 2, 2020 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral home 200 West Avenue South in La Crosse. Services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday January 3, 2020 at Mary Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse WI., with visitation one hour prior to services, and burial will follow at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, rural La Crosse.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Coulee Region Humane Society are requested.
