Rev. Howard Norman Larsen

Rev. Howard Norman Larsen passed away at the age of 85 at SpringBrook Village of La Crescent, Minnesota on June 2, 2023.  Howard was born on February 5, 1938 to Norman and Joyce (Ton) Larsen in Chicago, Illinois.

Howard grew up in Evanston, Illinois and graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1956. Following this, he earned his bachelor's degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1960 and went on to Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota where he graduated in 1964 and was then ordained in his home congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church in Skokie, Illinois.

Howard married Janice Hale in Forest City, Iowa on July 6, 1963.  He served as Pastor of churches in Summit, South Dakota and Humboldt, South Dakota.  Following this, he joined the Good Samaritan Society as administrator/chaplain of a long-term care facility in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin and then in Jasonville, Indiana.  The remainder of his career was spent in long-term care facility administration in the Midwest.

Howard is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janice; his children Mark (Diane) Larsen of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama; Paul (Heather) Larsen of Winona, Minnesota; and Julie (Aaron) Maes of Arena, Wisconsin; and grandchildren Emily Larsen, Camryn Larsen, Aaron Palubicki, Katelynn (Alexis) Croox, Kimberly Larsen, Joshua Maes, Caleb Maes, Mollie Maes, and Avery Maes.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Sylvan and Junelle Hengesteg of Rochester, Minnesota and other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Larsen.

A Remembrance and Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 1:30 PM at the La Crescent Area Event Center followed by an open house reception until 5:00 PM. Friends and family are welcome, casual attire.
