Ray R. Jewell

Ray Rodger Jewell, 92, of La Crescent, Minnesota, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Ray was born on March 10, 1931, in Lewiston, Minnesota, to Sylvester and Anna (Burfeind) Jewell.

He was married at the Church of Christ in Winona, Minnesota on July 12, 1958 by Clark Devore, Minister of the church, and made his home west of Ridgeway. The bride was Gretchen Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Green of Plainview.

Among his many careers he was a DHIA supervisor for Winona County, Auto Body man for Dahl Motors in the early 60’s, and a Chief Engineer for Community Memorial Hospital in Winona Minnesota.

After retiring he moved to Lebanon, Missouri to a small hobby farm. A Hobby Farm with chickens, ducks, cats, a dog, cattle, and a miniature donkey named Peaches.  He remained active repairing old cars and buying and fixing up houses, but also found time to take several bus trips in Canda and the US.

Faith was an important part of his life as an Elder or a Deacon in all the churches he served.  Ray and Gretchen supported many missions including Latin American Mission which will continue after his passing.

He is survived by his three children, James (Michelle) Jewell of Eagan, Minnesota, John Jewell of La Crescent, Minnesota, and Jeffrey Jewell of La Crescent Minnesota; 1 grandchild Bridget Jewell of Minneapolis.  His wife Gretchen, brother Roy Jewell, and sister Alice Erdman preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held at Onalaska Church of Christ (1415 Well Street, Onalaska, WI) from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday June 25, 2023 and again on Monday from 9 AM until the time of service at 10 AM.  Pastor Craig Chappell will officiate. Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery, Beaver Minnesota in Whitewater Township.
