The big guy — our father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend, Ralph Eugene Scheck, 86, of La Crosse passed on to eternal life on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. He was born September 22, 1936, in La Crosse, WI to Carl and Alice (Pardis) Scheck. He was baptized at the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church on February 28, 1937, and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on May 25, 1952.
He went to school in La Crosse and graduated from Central High School in the Class of ‘55. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Rae Cole on April 14, 1956. He is survived by his daughters Debra (Pat) Longmire of Spring Grove, MN, and Connie (Hal) Forseth of La Crosse; Sons Randy (Anne) of Burlington, WI, Steven (Susan) and Gregory (Kathy) both of La Crosse. He is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren with one on the way. Preceding him in death was his wife in 2014, his brothers Roger and Ronnie, and a great granddaughter Lillia Walsh.
Ralph spent many years playing softball, basketball, racquetball, and handball. As a dad and grandpa, he rarely missed his kid or grandkid’s game. Later in life, he enjoyed following his favorite teams on TV. He worked at and retired from Trane Company after 43 years.
Visitation will be held on September 26, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. S, La Crosse. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on September 27th at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave. S, La Crosse, with a visitation an hour before the service. Pastor Roger Sachs will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to First Light Early Learning Center, First Ev. Lutheran Church or School; or Luther High School, Onalaska.
