Phyllis Rae Hansen

Phyllis R. Hansen, 79, of Onalaska died on Monday, July 10, 2023 at her home.

Phyllis was born on October 16, 1943, to William and Alice (Kuehl) Russell. She was married for over 50 years to her husband, James, prior to his passing in 2017. Throughout her life she worked in a nursing home and managed a fish market, but her most important job was being a mom and wife and taking care of her family. No matter what, her family always had a home cooked meal. She loved to bake, do jigsaw and word search puzzles, play card or board games, watch game shows, collect turtles and Elvis. Above all else, she absolutely loved spending time with her family.

Phyllis was survived in death by her stepson James Jr. of Onalaska, son Kurt of Onalaska, and daughter Teresa (Vincent) of Farmington, MN; grandchildren Brandon (Jane) Mathison, Olaf (Tina) Mathison III, Matthew (Jean) Mathison, Christopher (Calista) Mathison, Joseph (Amanda) Mathison, Lisa (John) Jerome, Sybrina (Abel) Anderson, Ross (Jessica Stingl) Mathison, James Hansen III, Joseph Hansen, Hunter (Grace) Ells, Cody (Payton) Hansen, and Kennedy Gibbs; many great-grandchildren including the recent addition Oaklyn Hansen; great-great granddaughter Olivia; and a sister Dorothy Gartner also survive her. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings Robert Russell and Shirley Graul; her stepdaughter Donna “Evie” Mathison and son-in-law Olaf Mathison Jr.

A Celebration of Life may be held later this summer.
