Philip J. Weissenberger (69) of La Crosse, WI passed away peacefully in his home on October 28, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on March 17, 1955 to Julius “Bud” and Helen (Hammes) Weissenberger.
Phil was a larger-than-life figure that would give you the shirt off his back – though he may have argued what shirt you should take. His heart was as big as his opinions, and he was never shy about sharing them. He had a talent for transforming even the most ordinary topics into a debate, insisting that his way was not just the right way, but the only way, always bringing spirited energy to every discussion.
He was a devoted husband to Carol for 50 years and a loving father to Nathan and Nicole. Above all, he had a great love for his 5 grandchildren and great granddaughter, who brought him immense joy and pride. His personality might have sparked some lively discussions, but it was always paired with an underlying love that united them.
Phil had a fulfilling career as an auto repair business owner/operator. His impact in the auto repair field and the lives he touched was profound.
In his free time, he dabbled in many hobbies over the years, with a true passion for drag racing that spanned over 30 years. He traveled around the country with his family, following the NHRA racing circuit and creating countless cherished memories along the way. In heartfelt moments, he was able to race again before passing, a testament to his enduring spirit and love for the sport. He also had a deep love for golf and was fortunate to have a great group of friends he enjoyed playing with, sharing laughter and camaraderie both on and off the golf course.
Phil is survived by his wife, Carol (Schoolcraft) Weissenberger of La Crosse, WI; his son, Nathan(Vicky) Weissenberger of Holmen, WI; his daughter, Nicole Weissenberger of La Crosse, WI; his grandchildren: Madelin, Alex, Aaron, Lauren, Lucy; his great granddaughter, Lainey; His sisters Rose Marie Zeisler of Deforest, WI; Ann Place of Yakima, WA; Barbara Sekach of Tomah, WI; Mary Jo Havertape of La Crosse, WI; Jean Weissenberger( Mike Olson) of La Crosse, WI; Kathleen (Dave) Stout of La Crosse, WI; Brothers David (Kathy) Weissenberger of Sioux Falls, SD; Thomas (Karen) Weissenberger of Sparta, WI; Michael (Joan) Weissenberger of La Crosse, WI; John (Toni) Weissenberger of Iron River, WI; Peter (Sara) Weissenberger of Elizabeth, TN; Sister – In – Law Gabrielle Weissenberger of Berlin, Germany; Ann (Dale) Sinclair; Brother – In – Law John (Sharon) Schoolcraft and many nieces and nephews. Phil was proceeded in death by his parents, Julius and Helen Weissenberger; Brother, Steven Weissenberger; Sister, Linda Weissenberger; Brothers – In- Law, Steven Sekach, Frank Place, Jack Havertape, and Mike Zeisler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will celebrate. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation services of La Crosse on Monday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of services.
