Philip F. Thaldorf Phd., 86 of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his home. He was born in La Crosse on March 8, 1931 to Andrew and Stella (Cox) Thaldorf. On September 3, 1955 he married Lois Grabinski at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in La Crosse. Lois preceded him in death on February 16, 2015. They were happily married for fifty-nine years.
Phil had proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War down in Panama and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 52 La Crosse. His military service and the GI bill allowed him to further his education of which he was very proud. For years Phil had dedicated his time and experience to the La Crosse Redevelopment Authority board. Phil had worked as an engineer at Trane Co. for nine years and finished his working career at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute retiring in 1990.
In earlier years, Phil enjoyed playing semi-pro baseball and fast pitch softball. He also enjoyed playing cards, traveling with family and friends and will be joining his dancing partner Lois in heaven. Above all, Phil was a dedicated family man who was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to attend their many events.
He is survived by three children; Vickie (Mark) Wagner, Jay (Deb) Thaldorf, Karen (George) Miller, fourteen grandchildren; Monica (Stephan) Davis, Amber (Mark) Kulig, Megan (Mason) Sedlacek, Emily (David) Kelbel, Jamal, Bryce, Hunter and Eli Wagner, Philip and Samantha Thaldorf, Mason, Morgan, Maeve and Macauley Miller and four great grandchildren Emma and Aly Kulig and Graycen and Bryden Davis; five sisters, Beverly Thienes, Phyllis Wickus, Anita LeFebre, Etta Caroline Erickson, Pam Hagedon; one brother Clinton Thaldorf and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Lois, he was preceded in death by one grandson Ben Wagner, one granddaughter Brianna Wagner, one sister Joyce Jones and two brothers Richard and Steven Thaldorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Mary Mother of the Church Parish; 2006 Weston St., Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate. Entombment with military honors will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family Friday evening from 4-6 pm at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel; 200 West Ave. So.
