Roland “Rollie” W. Peters, 78, of La Crosse passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Gundersen Health System, after a courageous three-year battle with leukemia.
He was born in La Crosse on May 5, 1938, to Archie and Evelyn (Bartles) Peters. He was a 1956 graduate of Central High School. He married Judith “Judy” Cilley on April 5, 1960.
Rollie owned and operated RW Peters Trucking for 57 years until his retirement in 2016. He was an active member of the Town of Medary for many years. He plowed snow, maintained the roads, and loved being involved with the politics of his small town.
Rollie is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Lori (Dale) Lawrence and Karen (Tim) Tiber; son, Todd; grandchildren, Rachel Jacobson, Madelyn Wozney, Kyle and Jocelyn Peters, Tracy (Don) Dolan, Scott (Lynda Smith) Lawrence, Ted and Stephanie Tiber; great grandchildren, Kara and Hunter Dolan, and Dale Lawrence; sister, Ellen Bluske; brother, Wayne (Irene) Peters; and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Linda; his parents; and his sisters, Muriel and Judy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 21 st , at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1201 Main St., Onalaska. Pastor William Bader will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn North Cemetery, La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 907 Sand Lake Rd., Onalaska, and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.
Rollie was a wonderful husband, great Dad, goofy Grandpa, and a genuinely good man.
Rollie or RW, as he was known to many of his friends, was known for his pipe smoking, good natured opinions on just about any topic. He will be missed.
