Peter M. “Pete” Winkler, 78, passed away at his home on Friday, February 11 th , 2022. He was a resident of French Island, Wisconsin.
Pete Winkler was born to Paul and Edith (Carson) Winkler on April 26 th , 1943, in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised on the family farm and attended Bonduel High School, graduating in the class of 1961. He attended UW-Platteville and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He went on to serve in United States Air Force. He found the love of his life in Joan (Bubb) and the two were married on June 1 st , 1968. The couple had 5 children together: Sheilah Hougom (Dave), Karmen Oldenburg, Crystal Davis (Rusty), Heather Boardman (Jim), and Katherine Rudolph (David). Pete is survived by 8 grandchildren Lauren, Alyssa, Caleb, Jeremiah, Noah, Natalie, Elias, Aubrey and 2 great grandchildren Dean and Evelyn. He was proceeded in death by his wife, parents, and one sister.
Pete enjoyed fishing and being out on the lake. He was fond of traveling, history, and model trains. He was also exceptionally proud of his long, white “Santa” beard and was known to many of his children as “Grandpa Whitebeard”.
Although retired for several years, Pete was widely known as the owner and operator of A-Cab Company Inc. of La Crosse, WI for many years.
He attended Olivet Lutheran Church and in recent years was so happy with the friendships he made there and the support system that he was provided with there.
Services for Pete will be held on Friday, February 18 th , 2022 at 11:00 AM at Olivet Lutheran Church. Pastor Jeremy Walloch will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The family asks that all who attend please wear masks.
