Peter A. Amunrud

Peter A. Amunrud, 93 of La Crosse passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center. He was born August 5, 1930, in La Crosse to Arnol and Katherine (Dettinger) Amunrud and graduated from Anna- Jonesboro High School in Anna, Illinois.

He then attended St. John’s Naval Academy and served for over 20 years in the United States Navy as a submariner until his discharge. While serving in the Navy he married Geraldine “Geri” Hearing in 1950 in Chelsea, Mass. Following his discharge the family returned to La Crosse with four children and a dog.

In La Crosse, Peter worked in the City of La Crosse Water Department as a technician for many years until his retirement.

Peter loved all kinds of fishing, watching the Brewers and Packers, visiting the casino and spending 19 years wintering in Texas. He most of all loved visiting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Peter is survived by his wife Geri; four children, Edward Amunrud of Hokah, MN, Jeannie Amunrud of La Crosse, Patricia (Michael) Schroeder of Tomah and Mark (Debbie) Amunrud of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Chase and Taylor Bruder, Emily Amunrud and Nathan (Tanya) Amunrud; five great-grandchildren, Laney and Logan Bruder, Brayden, A.J. and Zoey Amunrud; a sister, Natalie Schoenfeld of La Crosse and Bob Amunrud of Marion, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
