Paul A. Vonwald

Paul A. VonWald, 75 of La Crosse, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at his childhood home in La Crosse doing what he loved to do.

He was born in La Crosse on November 24, 1947, to Donald and Betty (Hansen) VonWald and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1966. Paul worked as a body shop technician for J&H Auto Body and Gateway Maslin in La Crosse.  He then went on to further serve his community and became a Firefighter for the City of La Crosse for 20 years before his retirement in 2002.

On June 10, 1978, he married Pam Jones in La Crosse. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing and restoring cars. He was proud to be a river rat who loved boating and his 64 seasons sitting in the duck blind.

Paul is survived by his wife Pam of La Crosse; two sons, John VonWald of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Scott VonWald of La Crosse; two grandchildren, Emma VonWald of Appleton and Aidyn VonWald of La Crosse; a brother, Gary (Ellyn) VonWald of La Crosse; along with two nieces, Lisa (Dave) Williams of Hillsboro, WI and Jenny VonWald of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Betty VonWald.
