Paul Francis Sorenson passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 10, 2020. He was born February 14, 1957 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Elmo and Virginia (Tomsicek) Sorenson. Paul graduated from Aquinas High School in 1975. He then pursued his secondary education at WWTI earning two degrees in Machine Tool Operation and Welding. Later he went to Winona State earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education.
In Paul’s working career he enjoyed stints as a stagehand at the LaCrosse Center for performances and concerts. He worked at Trueline Inc and DCM as a Tool and Die maker. Many viewed Paul as a great teacher which led him to his final career as an Industrial Arts educator. Here Paul enjoyed passing on his knowledge, humor, and choice of music to his students at Minnesota State College Southeast in Winona. Upon retirement Paul continued mentoring students in the Robotics Club at Winona High School.
Paul’s interests included old television and radio programs, books, and high school and college sports. He was an avid baseball fan of all levels. He also liked the Packers and Badgers. In his younger days, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his brother, Fred. Paul was a devout Catholic attending services often. Paul was a member of the Knights of Columbus attaining the rank of Third Degree.
Paul is survived by a sister, Sylvia Stephens of Waunakee, WI and brother Fred (Janet) Sorenson of Ripon, WI. He is also survived by his nieces, Jennifer (Christopher) Roy, Angela (Joseph) Hoeppner, and Mary (Adrian) Wruck, and nephew, Peter Sorenson. He is further survived by great nieces and nephews, Harrison and Joseph Roy; Sara, Noah, and Lila Hoeppner; Henry, Maxwell, and Lucy Wruck and by two aunts, Betty Sorenson; Theresa Tomsicek, and many cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law William Stephens and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 17 th at Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent with Rev. John L. Evans III officiating. Burial will follow in Crucifixion Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
