Paul Alphonse Hauser, 91 of La Crosse passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility.
Paul was raised on a dairy farm in Cashton, WI. He had to quit school in the 9 th grade to help his family on the farm. At the age of 22, he met the love of his life, Levina Cavadini and they were married on October 7, 1953. Two months after their marriage he was drafted into the Army and served from December 1953 until his discharge in December of 1955.
Paul worked at La Crosse Cooler Company until they closed in 1986. He then found work at Chart Industries until his retirement in 1996. In retirement Paul and Levina enjoyed being snowbirds in Mesa, AZ during the winter months.
During Paul’s life the farmer came out in him. He maintained a substantial garden where he shared the fruits of his labor with his surrounding neighbors. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, biking, and long walks with Levina. Together they loved to gather with friends and travel to area Polka Fests where a lot of card playing took place.
Being strong in their faith, they were married 67 years and raised five children. Tragically they lost their son, Steven on December 23, 1975, in a car accident. Levina passed away on November 17, 2020.
Paul is survived by his daughters; Paula Simmons (Kevin Smith) and Laura (Sean) Dwyer; sons, Gary (Kelly) Hauser and Scott (Janae) Hauser; seven grandchildren, Conor, Meghan and Mari Dwyer, Daniel Simmons, Emma, Jack, and Michael Hauser; a great-grandson, Tommy; Paul’s twin brother, Robert (Ione) Hauser is the sole surviving sibling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 13 th at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral with Monsignor Richard Gilles officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 8:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Middle Ridge, WI.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul’s name to St. Croix Hospice, West Salem, WI or an organization of the donor’s choice.
