Paul G. Albrecht

Paul Gerhardt Albrecht, age 88, of Onalaska, was called from this life to eternal life in heaven by his Savior Jesus Christ on May 22, 2019.

He was born on September 23, 1930, in Bowdle, SD to Paul and Marie (Hoffmann) Albrecht. He became a child of God as he was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bowdle by his father who served as pastor of the congregation. His confirmation in the Christian faith also took place at St. John’s in Bowdle. After grade school in Bowdle, he attended Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, MN. His college years were spent at Northwestern College in Watertown, WI and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. After completing medical school at the University of Minnesota, he worked as a family physician at the Sparta Clinic from 1961 until retirement in 1997. He was a charter member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Paul married Carol Ellingson of Hayward, MN at East Freeborn Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea, MN on July 22, 1956. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage and raised four sons – Mark (Mary) of Winneconne, WI, Paul (Pamela) of La Crescent, MN, Thomas (Catherine) of San Jose, CA, and Daniel (Elizabeth) of Molt, MT.

He is survived by his wife, sons and daughters-in-law, 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister, Elaine (Richard) Ogren, one brother, Martin (Eunice) Albrecht, and a sister-in-law, Christine Albrecht. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Marcus, Jerome, Quentin, Homer; and one sister, Lois Kiecker.

His funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30 ^th , at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1201 Main Street, Onalaska, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.  Pastor William Bader and Pastor Daniel Olson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Onalaska Cemetery.   Memorials may be designated to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Onalaska, Luther High School of Onalaska, St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sparta, or the Mayo Clinic Hospice Program.
