Patricia A. (Derouin) Kendhammer, 79, of Onalaska died at Black River Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 1st, 2024. After a brief battle with pneumonia, she was ready to join her husband Pete and Our Father Almighty in a better place.
She married Peter M. Kendhammer on September 4th, 1965 in La Crosse, WI. They rented a small house in Brownsville, MN to start their family. As the family grew, they purchased a home in Onalaska, WI.
Pat graduated from St. Thomas Moore, Aquinas High School and UWL with a degree in education. She worked many various jobs including Trane Company and RSVP, most enjoying the substitute teaching she did later in her working years.
Pat fought a life-long battle with mental illness. Because of this she was able to appreciate the humanity in others who had the same illnesses. She easily made friends with people who were authentic; most notably Anita, Kim, Linda, Lois and Sister Delores, all having an enormous impact on her later in life.
She is survived by four daughters, Maria Kendhammer, Paula (William) Finn, Laura (Thomas) Horton, and Audra Kendhammer; ten grandchildren, TaLea, Thomas Jr., Elizabeth, Shannon, Lauren, Erin, Jonathan, Melody, Phillip, and Stephen; three great-grandchildren, Kamden, Leeahna, and Legend; two sisters, Kathy Faas and Jean Kendhammer; and nieces and nephews. Pat loved her cat Lulu, who has been a family member and faithful companion for fifteen years.
Pat’s favorite pastime was reading. Voraciously. Most especially self help, history, and art books. She was currently reading “Heaven is for Real”. She will be forever in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 18, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1031 Main St, Onalaska, WI 54650. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church. Graveside services will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse.
