Neil Robert Haskin 83, of La crescent, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 24, 2023 while enjoying a meal with his daughter.
He was born December 5th, 1939, in Austin, MN, to Albert and Edna (Dryer) Haskin, along with his siblings, Carol Johnson, Gordon, Marvin and Allen Haskin, Leslie Hanson, and Valerie Boerner.
Neil loved to dream big and travel. You could always find him with a pencil and paint brush creating a new masterpiece.
At the young age of 5 Neil lost partial hearing due to childhood illness but managed to overcome and continue on to enlist in the United States Army. He went on to serve a tour in Korea as a radio technician. Upon his honorable discharge from the US Army, he went on to explore several careers throughout his life including a Keebler sales representative, UPS driver, construction and a tow truck driver for the California Highway Patrol.
Neil married his High School sweet heart Edith Rohne, and they would prove to be the true definition of a love without end. He may have worked in many trades but what he enjoyed most and will be most fondly remembered for, was his passion for art and painting. Neil was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran church in La crescent, MN, and served as the secretary for the church.
Neil was a loving father to Jeff, Jim, Jay, Mary, Johnny, Todd, Tia, Victor, Vance, Kaylin, and Joseph. He was an adoring grandfather to Melody, Erin Anne, Linda Kay, Nate, Christopher, Blain, Angelica, Jayden, Olivia and Penelope. He was also blessed with being a great grandfather to Preston, Herminone, Sheldon, Silas, Alejandro, Anthony, Lexi, Mason, Donovan, Liam, Karter and was excited for a new great grandson due in August.
He will be especially remembered for his warm smile, hard work, and dedication.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 414 Main Street La Crescent, MN, 55947 at 11:00 am with visitation with the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Pastor Mark Rieke will officiate.
